Original certificate with gold embossed seal over a photocopy

Certificate embossers for schools, institutes and small offices in India

Team Stamporaa|
Why schools, coaching institutes, clinics and small offices put an embossed logo seal on certificates, and how to set one up properly.

A printed certificate can be reproduced by anyone with a decent printer. An embossed one cannot, at least not casually. That is the practical reason a custom logo embosser still sits on the desk of so many principals, trainers, doctors and office managers in India.

This guide covers who uses a certificate embosser, what it proves, how to set up your logo for one, and what to order.

What an embossed seal proves

An embosser presses your logo into the paper as a raised relief. There is no ink on the surface, so a scan or photocopy shows at most a faint shadow. When someone presents a certificate with a crisp raised seal, it is very likely the original sheet you issued.

It is not a security feature in the banking sense. A determined forger can make a plate. What it does is raise the effort from "print another copy" to "commission a tool", which is enough for most course certificates, internal documents and letters.

Who uses one

  • Schools, on merit certificates, transfer certificates, sports awards and library books.
  • Coaching and training institutes, on course completion certificates, where an original matters to the student's next employer.
  • Dance, music and art academies, on grade certificates and recital programmes.
  • Clinics and diagnostic centres, on fitness certificates and printed letters.
  • Consultants, architects and small offices, on letterheads, proposals and delivered drawings.
  • Event organisers and NGOs, on participation and volunteer certificates.

A note on company seals

Many people still ask for a "company seal". Since the Companies (Amendment) Act, 2015, a common seal is optional for companies in India, and documents can be authorised by signature instead. Some companies still keep one by choice, and some banks, foreign counterparts or older formats may still ask for it. Treat this as general information and check your own requirement with your CA or company secretary before relying on a seal for a legal filing.

For everything else, a logo embosser is a branding and authentication tool, and there is no rule about its design.

Setting up your logo for a plate

The Impressa custom identity embosser takes your own artwork. Logos that emboss well share a few traits:

  • Solid shapes over thin lines. Hairline strokes press too shallow to see.
  • One colour thinking. An embosser has no colour, so gradients and shading disappear. A one colour version of your logo is what we need.
  • Text of reasonable size. Your institute name in an arc around the logo works well. A tagline in tiny type does not.
  • A vector file if you have one (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF). A high resolution PNG also works.

A common and effective layout: logo in the centre, full name in an arc across the top, city or year in an arc across the bottom.

40 mm or 50 mm for certificates

On an A4 certificate, a 40 mm seal (₹1,669) looks neat and restrained. A 50 mm seal (₹2,869) has more presence and holds a longer institute name with finer logo detail. If your name is more than about twenty characters, choose 50 mm.

Gold seals for a finished look

Most formal certificates carry a gold seal rather than a blind emboss on white paper. You get that by embossing a Signature Seal gold or silver card (20 for ₹299) and sticking it in place. It also lets you seal certificates printed on paper too thick for the embosser to reach.

A simple workflow for batches

  1. Print and sign all certificates first.
  2. Emboss a full sheet of seal cards in one sitting, one card at a time.
  3. Apply the seals in the same spot on every certificate, using a light pencil mark or a template card as a guide.
  4. Keep the embosser locked away when not in use. It is the one thing that makes your originals original.

Common questions

Can we order more than one embosser with the same logo?
Yes, for branches or departments. Tell us the quantity when ordering.

Can the plate include a registration number?
Yes, if it fits legibly. Numbers are usually fine in the bottom arc on a 50 mm plate.

How quickly can it be made?
Dispatch is usually same day to 2 to 3 days after you approve the design proof.

Does it work on thick certificate board?
Our embossers suit paper up to about 180 gsm. For thicker board, emboss a seal card and apply it.
