Embossers for chartered accountants and tax professionals in India

A CA firm hands out reports and certificates all year. An embossed firm seal marks the issued original. What it is for, and what still carries the weight.

A chartered accountant's output is paper that other people rely on: project reports for a bank, computation sheets, final accounts, summaries for a client. A raised firm seal on the cover sheet does not make the numbers any more correct. It does make the document easy to recognise as the one your firm issued.

What an embosser is for

  • Cover sheets of reports and bound client files carry the firm mark.
  • Project reports and loan files look finished when they reach a bank.
  • Issued originals are easy to tell from the photocopies and scans that circulate afterwards.
  • Welcome kits for new clients and articled assistants feel considered.

What still carries the weight

For anything you certify, your membership number, firm registration number, signature and the UDIN where it applies stay exactly as the Institute requires. The embosser is an identity mark on top of that, and it does not replace any of it. Treat it the way you treat the firm letterhead.

Designing a firm seal

Firms usually choose one of these:

  • Firm name in an arc across the top, city or year across the bottom.
  • Partner's initials as a monogram in the centre.
  • The firm logo, supplied in a single colour, prepared into a plate from your upload.

Our embossers suit paper up to about 180 gsm, so seal the cover sheet or a seal card and not a thick bound stack. If your firm name is long, choose the 50 mm plate.

A gift for a newly qualified CA

Result day and the oath ceremony are natural moments to give an embosser with the new CA's name. It goes on the first certificate they issue.

The papers a CA firm can seal

Walk through a normal month in a practice and count what leaves the office on paper: project reports for bank loans, computation sheets, summaries for a client's board, bound final accounts. A good share of these are re-read, copied and forwarded. The seal on the cover sheet identifies the version your firm issued.

Firms with several partners can use the same idea for internal discipline: one seal for the firm on client deliverables, and a personal seal for each partner on their own letters.

Plate layouts for firms

  • Firm seal. Firm name in the top arc, city in the bottom arc, a monogram of the partners' initials in the centre.
  • Partner seal. Partner's name in the ring with a plain mark such as a leaf or a laurel.
  • Practice with a logo. Supply the logo in one colour through the image option and we prepare the plate.
  • Learning and training seal. For articled assistants' completion letters and workshop certificates.

A workflow for reports

  1. Finalise and print the report on the firm letterhead or cover.
  2. Sign the pages that need signatures.
  3. Emboss the firm seal on the cover sheet, or on a gold seal card stuck to the cover.
  4. Bind and deliver, and keep a plain scanned copy on the client file.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sealing a thick bound stack. The plate suits paper up to about 180 gsm. Seal the cover or use a seal card.
  • Assuming the seal certifies anything. It identifies the firm and does not replace your membership number, signature or UDIN where they apply.
  • Tiny text. A full firm name plus a registration number needs the 50 mm plate.

40 mm or 50 mm: which size

Size Price Best for
40 mm ₹1,669 A name or short firm name in an arc, one small mark in the centre
50 mm ₹2,869 Longer names, a registration or enrolment number, finer logo detail
Gold seal cards, set of 20 ₹299 A gold finish, or sealing paper that is too thick to emboss directly

As a rule of thumb, count the characters you want on the plate. Up to about twenty fits 40 mm comfortably. Beyond that, choose 50 mm.

How to order

  1. Open the Impressa custom identity embosser. It takes your own name, text or logo. The 40 mm size is ₹1,669 and the 50 mm size is ₹2,869.
  2. Choose your text, or switch on the image option and upload your logo. You can also build a preview in the embosser designer.
  3. Approve the design proof we send. Dispatch is usually same day to 2 to 3 days after approval.

Common questions

Can two partners use the same plate?
Yes, if it carries the firm name. For individual marks, order one plate per partner.

Is an embosser the same as a firm stamp?
No. A self-inking stamp prints ink details such as address and numbers. The embosser leaves a raised mark. Many offices keep both.

How long does it take?
Usually same day to 2 to 3 days after you approve the proof.

Can the plate show my firm registration number?
Yes, if it fits legibly. It is easier on the 50 mm plate and in the bottom arc.

Can I use one seal for a firm with several branches?
Yes, if the plate carries the firm name only. Order one plate per branch if you want the city on it.

Will it work on a coloured cover sheet?
Yes. A blind seal shows best on lighter paper, and a gold seal card works on any colour.
