Engineering paper travels. A design report goes to a client, then to a bank, then to an authority, and each of them copies it. A raised seal on the cover sheet marks the set your office actually issued.
Where engineers use an embosser
- Design and inspection reports get a seal on the cover and signature page.
- Drawing sets carry a seal on the title sheet.
- Test and quality certificates from a factory or lab look final.
- Handover packs given to a client at completion feel finished.
- Tender submissions stand apart on a pile of identical bound copies.
A note on statutory stamps
Some authorities, utilities and clients ask for a specific stamp, number or licence format. Unlike some countries, India does not have one national engineer's seal, so check what your authority or client prescribes. An embosser is a mark for your own documents and does not stand in for a prescribed stamp.
What to put on the plate
- Firm name in an arc with a simple mark in the centre.
- Your logo, supplied in one colour. Engineering logos often have thin lines, so we may thicken them for the plate.
- Name and designation in a clean arc for an individual consultant.
On drawing sets, emboss a seal card and stick it on the title sheet if the sheet is heavier than about 180 gsm.
A gift for a graduating engineer
A personalised embosser marks a first job or a graduation well. The designer has a graduation motif to start from, and the name can go in the arc.
A seal for each stage of an engineering job
An engineering job produces paper at every stage, and each stage has its own reader:
- Proposal and tender. A sealed cover sheet on a bound tender stands apart from a pile of identical copies.
- Design stage. Calculation sheets and drawing sets carry the firm mark on the title sheet.
- Execution. Inspection reports and test certificates carry a seal beside the signature of the person who signed them.
- Handover. The completion pack and as-built set get a seal so the client knows which set is the final one.
Plate layouts for engineers
- Firm seal. Firm name in the top arc, "Consulting Engineers" or the discipline in the bottom arc, a small mark in the centre.
- Individual seal. Your name and designation in the ring, with a simple gear or compass as a centre mark.
- Factory or lab seal. Plant name in the top arc and "Quality" or "Testing" in the bottom arc, for certificates.
- Graduation seal. Name in the ring with the graduation motif from the designer.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using a logo with hairline details. Thin lines do not press visibly. Send a bolder version.
- Sealing the wrong sheet. Seal the title or cover sheet, not every sheet, or the seal loses meaning.
- Ignoring a prescribed format. If your client or authority requires its own stamp, use that. The embosser sits alongside.
40 mm or 50 mm: which size
| Size | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 40 mm | ₹1,669 | A name or short firm name in an arc, one small mark in the centre |
| 50 mm | ₹2,869 | Longer names, a registration or enrolment number, finer logo detail |
| Gold seal cards, set of 20 | ₹299 | A gold finish, or sealing paper that is too thick to emboss directly |
As a rule of thumb, count the characters you want on the plate. Up to about twenty fits 40 mm comfortably. Beyond that, choose 50 mm.

Common questions
Can it include my licence or registration number?
Yes, if it fits legibly. Use the 50 mm plate for more text.
Will it work on tracing or drawing sheets?
Thin sheets emboss well, and heavy board is better served by a seal card.
Can my firm order several plates?
Yes, for branches or partners. Tell us the quantity when you order.
Is an embosser a replacement for an engineer's stamp?
No. If your authority or client prescribes a stamp or licence format, use it. The embosser marks your own documents.
Can a manufacturing unit use it for quality certificates?
Yes. A plant seal beside the signature on a certificate is a common use.
Can I emboss on tracing paper?
Thin sheets emboss well. On heavy board use a seal card.
